There is an increasing trend to over-package products. This is damaging in both the production and disposal stages of the product. Design with a minimalist attitude and only use what packaging is necessary for your products. This also includes offering consumers refillable packets, which uses less material. If a lot of material is required for packaging, design it so the package can be reused or used for another purpose.

"Every tonne of paper recycled, saves almost 13 trees. It saves 2.5 barrels of oil, 4100 kWh of electricity, 4 cubic metres of landfill and 31, 780 litres of water." Quote from visy
Try to use the packaging boxes in point of sale promotions rather than extra materials. Try to source materials that have already been used for another purpose rather than using new materials.
Don't encourage your clients to use wasteful advertising methods such as junkmail. If you use mailing methods, target the mail to minimise waste and increase response.
Dont suggest to your clients wasteful giveaways for promotions. This includes irrelevent printed material and plastic 'thingies'. Give away quality promotional items that will be used and reused by the consumer. Also, remember that a lot of promotional giveaways are made in sweatshops from slave labour (this is why they are so cheap).
